Surveillance & AI Roundtable

SMART Security Solutions convened a roundtable of surveillance and AI experts to examine the current state of the industry — and DeepAlert’s founder and Chief Innovation Officer, Dr Jasper Horrell, was among the participants.

Dr Horrell outlined DeepAlert’s footprint: operating across southern Africa, the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, with a core focus on false-alarm filtering and an expanding capability set that includes suspicious behaviour detection, PPE compliance monitoring, and agentic AI solutions.

A key theme of the roundtable was the distinction between genuine AI and rules-based systems being marketed as AI — a challenge the industry is still navigating. As Dr Horrell noted, the standard for what constitutes real AI capability is rising, and customers are becoming more discerning.

The discussion also explored how control rooms are evolving: moving from reactive monitoring environments to intelligent operations centres where AI surfaces actionable intelligence and operators make informed decisions rather than triaging false alarms.

It is a transformation DeepAlert is actively enabling.
